Let’s turn Mid Cheshire RED

My Story
I’m Mike Buckley and I’m standing to be Labour’s candidate in Mid Cheshire.
I grew up Labour. Growing up in Sheffield in the 1980s my childhood and my worldview were shaped by a Tory Government uninterested in our wellbeing or our futures.
Through my adult life I’ve fought hard for Labour values, human rights and a greener future.
I served overseas as an aid worker for over a decade, rebuilding homes after the tsunami in Indonesia, health centres in Iraq after the war, homes, hospitals and schools in Sudan, Uganda and Albania.
For the last decade I’ve worked for justice here at home – winning campaigns for fair pay, asylum and refugee rights, climate justice and workers’ rights. I now lead a Commission which works with trade unions and MPs to fix the mess of Brexit.
Mid Cheshire has been let down by 13 years of Tory Government. There is urgent work we need to do.
We face multiple crises: the NHS at breaking point, a climate emergency slipping down the Government’s priority list, too many facing poverty this winter as bills rocket.
I’ve been encouraged to stand by local members, to bring together our towns and Labour members, to beat the Tories next year and take Mid Cheshire forward. I would love your support.
My Plan
UNITE THE PARTY
I have support from across Mid Cheshire – in every town, every branch and every part of our party. I will unite our party and lead from the front to give us the best chance of beating the Tories next year.
WIN THE ELECTION
The Tories will fight hard to win Mid Cheshire. I believe our towns are Labour towns – but to win we need to fight for every vote.
I’ve campaigned with local members in every part of Mid Cheshire throughout this year. I’ve listened to voters – they will give Labour a hearing but we have to prove we’re up to the task.
In the last 13 years I’ve worked with many of our party’s best campaigners, people like Andy Burnham and Sadiq Khan. I’ve worked on winning Labour campaigns across the country.
I’ll use my experience of leading and winning campaigns, bring together the experience and skills we have across our party, to make a powerful case to voters.
My promise to you is simple: I'll work hard, campaign smart, and always put the people of Mid Cheshire first.
TAKE MID CHESIRE FORWARD
Our towns have so much going for them – we have incredible history, communities, local industry and employment other areas would love to have.
But we face challenges too – poverty, underinvestment in the NHS, social care and education, a transport system that lets too many down – especially older and vulnerable people.
Tory failures to tackle climate change, to rebuild our relationship with the EU or an economy that works for working people hold us all back. Tory MPs disinterested in our towns have left too many without representation and urgent casework undone.
As the Labour MP for all our towns I will make sure that every part of our constituency benefits from Labour in power. I will make the case for ambition on the environment, to re-engage with Europe and strong workers’ rights. I will make ending child poverty here our mission, giving local children the best possible start in life.
Public services that work
I'll work for an NHS and social care system that puts patients first, education that closes attainment gaps and an accessible transport system fit for the 21st century.
Green industry and jobs
I work with industry leaders – they want a Government willing to support green investment and jobs. I will work to get investment and skills education so that we have the high-skilled green jobs we need in our communities.
Invest in our communities
I will work to ensure our green spaces, like St John’s in Rudheath and the marina in Winsford are protected, new housing and transport is built in ways which make communities better, and public services are brought up to the highest standards in Europe.
End child poverty in Mid Cheshire
The number of children in poverty has increased under the Tories. I will make ending it here my mission – working with councillors, charities and schools to improve lives.
Open & accessible
I will open an accessible office in Mid Cheshire, and will hold regular surgeries in every town and village.
